Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Update
The California Department of Public Health and Poway Unified School District would like to extend appreciation to all PUSD staff members and parents who helped to ensure that all middle and high school students met the new immunization requirement for the Pertussis vaccine.
Pertussis, as well as other vaccine-preventable illnesses, is an ongoing threat in California. It is important to continue to protect our schools by
- Informing parents of 6th graders to schedule a comprehensive check-up, including a Tdap booster if they haven’t had it yet. Tdap will be required for all incoming 7th graders on the first day of school for the 2012-13 school year.
- Recommending that school employees and volunteers, who have not already done so, should receive a Tdap vaccine in order to protect their contacts at home and at school
- Keeping your child’s school immunization records up to date by submitting the record to the school health office when new immunizations are received.
- Notifying the school health office of any communicable illness that occurs in your child.
